As a professional working within the perioperative services department, the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Educator possesses in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in SPD best practices and processes, which the SPD Educator utilizes to serve as a subject matter expert, a consultant for University Health stakeholders, and in supporting and mentoring SPD staff. The SPD Educator is responsible and accountable for identifying knowledge or practice deficiencies of staff, developing educational interventions, coordinating intervention implementations, and evaluating outcomes on the identified gap(s) in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, and best practices of professional organization standards to drive high quality outcomes. The responsibilities of the SPD Educator include (but not limited to) onboarding new hire staff and coordinating their probationary orientation period, providing regular education in-services across all shifts. Additionally, the SPD Educator supports optimizing the quality and efficiency of department outputs through regular environmental surveillance rounding and providing prompt, constructive yet supportive feedback to SPD staff while treating all employees with respect. The SPD Educator is a trusted resource to all employees and UH stakeholders with a primary focus on quality assurance within the decontamination, prep and pack, and sterilization phases in SPD.
