About The Position

The position is within the Sterile Processing Services department at Atrium Health Cabarrus, which is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, typically scheduled Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. The role involves promoting an environment conducive to staff growth and development, defining and implementing orientation programs, and fostering ongoing professional development for associates. Responsibilities include orienting new staff to department policies, monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements, and serving as a clinical resource and mentor. The position also requires staying current on sterilization standards and promoting staff certification.

Requirements

  • CSPDT, CST preferred.
  • 3+ years Surgical environment experience.
  • 1+ years teaching or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office, e-mail and hand held technology.
  • Good communication skills.
  • CSPDT, CST preferred with current Professional State Licensure under IDFPR.

Responsibilities

  • Defines, coordinates, implements, monitors and evaluates SPD orientation program.
  • Provides for competency based education process for associates.
  • Fosters ongoing professional development of associates by assisting with performance, assessment of needs and assisting individuals with identification of professional goals.
  • Promotes participation in educational opportunities.
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates the role of unit-based preceptor.
  • Orient associates to department policies and procedures.
  • Explain job activities and tasks relative to each position.
  • Orient associates to specific SPD functions: Decontamination, Instrument Assembly, Sterilization, Case Cart Assembly, Equipment handling.
  • Demonstrates, explains and monitors the activities of new orientees or personnel seeking advancement to next technical level.
  • Monitors associate engagement and addresses issues or concerns to assure resolution.
  • Communicates changes in practice and ensures changes are incorporated into daily activities.
  • Monitors and evaluates unit compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assumes responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor, in conjunction with the manager.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for staff.
  • Monitors customer satisfaction in collaboration with the manager.
  • Participates in goal setting and process improvement initiatives.
  • Supports and serves as resource to affiliated schools.
  • Stays current on sterilization standards via literature, education events, internal and external resources, and networking.
  • Participates in activities to enhance professional growth, such as involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Partners with Infection Control to assure alignment.
  • Promote staff certification.
  • Acts as a resource on instrument identification, appropriate use, location and availability.
