About The Position

UNM-Valencia STEM Tutoring, under the Pasos Resource Center, is seeking students interested in helping fellow Lobos! We are looking for students who have done well in their classes and are excited to help their peers in a variety of subjects, especially math and science, for Spring 2026. Prior experience with tutoring is appreciated but not required. Applicants will be asked to indicate which subject areas they are applying to be STEM Tutors for. Potential STEM Tutors should have earned a B or higher in the courses that they are applying to tutor. Preference will be given to applicants who can tutor a wide variety of courses. Work Study Award is preferred but not required. STEM Tutors are expected to: • Collaborate with learners to enhance learner confidence, responsibility, and interdependence • Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, and a diverse student body • Maintain high ethical standards and protect the confidentiality of learners and coworkers as required by FERPA regulations • Ensure and maintain a welcoming, judgment-free environment for learners • Attend and participate in tutor education training as outlined by the College of Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) curriculum, typically scheduled on Fridays by Zoom • Participate, if interested, in our Embedded Tutoring Program, in which STEM Tutors attend classes and are an extra help for students during selected lower-level math classes

Requirements

  • Be a UNM-Valencia or UNM-Albuquerque student
  • Have successfully completed Math 1215 or 1215Z with a B or higher
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher at the time of hire
  • Have earned a B or higher in courses of interest to tutor

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of English 1110 or 1110Z with a B or higher
  • Experience in computer applications i.e. Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Zoom
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience
