About The Position

Matchbook Learning is seeking an innovative STEM / Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Teacher to lead K–8 students through hands-on science, technology, engineering, and real-world, design-based problem solving; this role includes providing K–8 STEM instruction, implementing the Project Lead The Way curriculum, coordinating coding and digital learning tools, facilitating project-based learning aligned to workforce competencies, and collaborating closely with the Director of Competency-Based Learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • State Standard teaching certification or equivalent out-of-state certificate.
  • Previous experience working with elementary or middle school students is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Ability to adapt lessons and teaching techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor to work with students.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM fields, education, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Prior experience teaching STEM, PLTW, robotics, coding, or science.
  • Experience with project-based learning, design thinking, or makerspace instruction.
  • Familiarity with competency-based learning (or willingness to learn).

Responsibilities

  • Teach STEM/PLTW classes for Kindergarten through 8th grade.
  • Deliver hands-on lessons that integrate: Engineering design challenges Scientific inquiry Coding and robotics Technology fluency and digital citizenship Problem-solving, teamwork, data collection, and iteration
  • Implement PLTW modules with fidelity, while adapting for student needs and pacing.
  • Build a classroom culture that encourages experimentation, creativity, persistence, and productive struggle.
  • Integrate platforms such as: Code.org CodeMonkey PLTW Launch Typing and digital skills tools
  • Support students in beginning or advancing coding skills, computational thinking, and engineering mindsets.
  • Lead students in STEM projects that connect to: Real-world problems Workforce skills 21st-century competencies (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity)
  • Collaborate with the Director of Competency-Based Learning to embed competencies and rubrics.
  • Support 5th–8th grade students in extended project showcases or exhibitions when possible.
  • Work closely with instructional leadership, the restorative team, and fellow teachers to support students.
  • Participate in instructional coaching, data reviews, classroom visits, and PD.
  • Contribute to our restorative school model, helping students reflect, repair harm, and return ready to learn.
  • Uphold school expectations and routines with fairness, calmness, and clarity.
  • Build relationships across grade levels to spark STEM curiosity early.
  • Promote inclusivity in STEM—help students see themselves as engineers, coders, scientists, makers, and builders.
  • Reinforce Matchbook Learning’s belief that students should be prepared for real-world opportunity and long-term success.
