About The Position

The Middle School STEM Teacher fosters a dynamic and hands-on learning environment where students engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts. This role supports academic growth, problem-solving skills, critical thinking and innovation through collaborative and inquiry-based learning. The teacher works closely with students, staff, and families to create meaningful educational experiences that prepare students for future STEM opportunities. Teaches and facilitates learning and maintains academic progress, discipline, and records for students at the middle school grade level.

Requirements

• Current and valid Kansas State teaching license required.
• Endorsement in Science, Math, or STEM-related fields (5-8).
• Experience in classroom teaching, especially in STEM-focused instruction.
• Strong ability to integrate technology and real-world applications into STEM curriculum.
• Passion for fostering student curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
• Strong understanding of modern instructional strategies, including inquiry-based and project-based learning approaches
• Knowledge of federal and state education policies and their impact on curriculum and student outcomes
• Ability to engage students with interactive and technology-integrated instruction
• Ability and patience to work interactively with students
• Effective organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to deliver teaching instruction in accordance with improved curriculum and standards
• Excellent skills in verbal and written communication
• Ability to understand the individual needs of each student
• Proficiency in using digital tools such as Microsoft Outlook, student information systems, and adaptive learning platforms
• Capacity to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners, including students with individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Must be proficient in using both traditional and modern educational tools, including computers, interactive displays, digital assessment platforms, and STEM-related software.
• Compliance with WPS technology and equipment usage guidelines is required.
• Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
• Requires extended periods of standing, bending, twisting, balancing, stooping, climbing steps, and reaching overhead.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced educational setting.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with instructional technology, such as learning management systems and virtual collaboration tools, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver engaging STEM lessons that integrate scientific inquiry, mathematical reasoning, and technological applications
• Establish and communicate clear learning objectives to students for all lessons and provide hands-on, project-based learning experiences that encourage critical thinking and communicate those objectives to students
• Utilize various teaching strategies, including direct instruction, discussions, experiments, and demonstrations, to support diverse learners
• Collaborate and communicate with colleagues across disciplines to enhance STEM learning and align with district educational priorities
• Develop assessments to evaluate student understanding/progress and adjust instruction accordingly
• Maintain an inclusive, structured classroom environment that fosters curiosity, collaboration, and respect
• Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff to ensure strong academic support and engagement
• Participate in STEM trainings, in district and out of district professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and district-wide STEM initiatives
• Ensure compliance with school policies and state education standards while incorporating innovative teaching approaches
• Establish and enforce rules and procedures which help to maintain order in the classroom
• Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on the progress of students. Discusses students' struggles and progress with parents and staff
• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
• Observes, enforces and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district
• Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisors
