The STEM Librarian at Carnegie Mellon University Libraries plays a crucial role in supporting the Math, Physics, and Statistics and Data Science departments. This position focuses on building relationships with faculty and researchers, enhancing library services, and promoting open and reproducible science. The librarian will engage in professional development, contribute to research, and collaborate with a team of experts to meet the evolving needs of the Carnegie Mellon community.

  • Develop relationships with faculty and researchers to optimize library expertise and services.
  • Assist faculty and students in finding, managing, and critically evaluating information and data.
  • Collaborate with methodological specialists to create tailored learning opportunities for students in relevant disciplines.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of mathematical and physical science research to enhance service delivery.
  • Develop e-first library collections in math, physics, and data science.
  • Participate in open initiatives such as open access, open science, and open data.
  • Engage in project teams within the libraries and across campus.
  • Conduct research and produce scholarly work.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant discipline or an MLS/MLIS with a degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships in a STEM context.
  • Familiarity with scholarly communication needs in assigned subject areas.
  • Experience in teaching or presenting.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, with experience applying these principles.
  • Experience managing data sets relevant to STEM fields, particularly in math and physics.
  • Working knowledge of statistical software packages and programs.
  • Familiarity with collaborative research tools such as GitHub and electronic lab notebooks.
