Westwood PT Afternoon and Evening STEM Instructors
About The Position
The primary focus of this position will be to teach Snapology programs. Instructors are asked to promote creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts. Programs are conducted for children ages 3-14, although not all instructors are required to teach all age groups. This role requires internal collaboration and communication with Snapology leadership as well as representing the Snapology organization to parents & children with a high degree of professionalism. If you are passionate about teaching, this is the position for you! Locations: We are currently recruiting for instructors in Westwood, MA area. This can include towns such as: Westwood, Wellesley, Weston, Dedham, Newton, Braintree, Canton, Norwood and more! Part-Time Programs Available to Teach: Depending on your availability and our enrollment, we can have 4-20 hours of work per week available for you! After-school classes are available throughout the region from September to June, though most of programming happens in the fall and winter each year. Locations may vary, as we partner with schools, recreation centers, etc. Each program will last approximately 1-1.25 hours in occur one day per week between 2:30 and 6:00pm Monday-Friday in our partner locations (schools, recreation centers, etc.). Some locations do have back to back programs. In addition, we do offer birthday parties, which are 1.5-2 hours in length and occur on Saturday or Sunday during the day (typically between 10AM and 5PM). These can be mobile (at partner sites) or offered at our North Chelmsford, MA location. Pay: We currently start instructors at $85-$100 per evening, depending on direct experience working with school-age children in comparable capacities (or in public schools). This includes renumeration for your travel time, set-up time, and clean-up time. Normally, you will teach for between 1.25 and 2.5 hours in one evening. Training is provided at $20/hour and there are some opportunities for administrative tasks (i.e., inventory) at $20/hour. Requirements
- 2 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or similar environment
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Ability to successfully complete a background check, including a CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting
Nice To Haves
- Education degree or teaching experience recommended, teachers pursuing a degree in education will also be considered for this position
Responsibilities
- Lead groups of up to 20 students through curriculum-guided activities (note that for larger class sizes, you will co-teach with another instructor or have the support of a Teaching Assistant)
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
- Adequately prepare for each program by reading curriculum, watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions
- Handle inquiries from parents regarding Snapology programs
- Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs
- Check-in with Owner/Program Director as needed
