About The Position

W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor Inc has an opening for an experienced fabricator at our steel fabrication shop. This position is full time. A minimum of 5 years previous experience working in a steel shop or similar fabrication shop is required. Applicants must have the ability to pass a welding certification test.

Requirements

  • 5 years previous experience working in a steel shop or similar fabrication shop
  • Ability to pass a welding certification test.
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings, bill of materials, and cut lists.
  • Ability to competently use tape measure and other measuring devices for successful and accurate fit up of assemblies.
  • Competency in the use of shop tools, including Welding Equipment, Plasma Cutters, Oxygen/Acetylene Torches, Hole Punch, Plate Shear, Press-Brake, Plate Roll, Band Saw, and other common shop equipment.
  • Ability to weld, FCAW/GMAW/GTAW, in an efficient and effective manner, producing acceptable/clean welds in vertical, flat, horizontal and overhead positions.
  • Must be able to pass a welding certification test using FCAW & GMAW processes in 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions.
  • Experience with the operation and set up of CNC Equipment such as Plasma Plate Table and Pipe/Tube Cutter.
  • Follow required procedures and use fabrication drawings, shop equipment, fixtures and jigs to fit, assemble, and weld various assemblies accurately and timely.
  • Able to pass a drug test.
  • A valid driver's license and dependable transportation
  • Able to work from 6am to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Maintain an orderly work area.
  • Maintain consistent and effective production output levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds.
  • Proper dress to include long pants, shirts with sleeves, and steel toe boots.

Nice To Haves

  • 6G position is desirable but not required.
  • Operate a Forklift
  • Use of Cad/Cam software
