About The Position

The Steel Cutting & Forming Mechanic position at Electric Boat involves processing raw materials through various cutting and forming techniques to fabricate parts for nuclear submarines. The role requires operating multiple CNC machines for plasma, laser, and oxy cutting, as well as using grinders and burners with oxy propane and plasma torches. The mechanic will also utilize forming rolls and c-frame presses, and must be certified in forklift and overhead crane operation to maneuver steel within the department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience.
• Available to work all shifts.
• Ability to read basic blueprints and interpret layout and shipyard procedures.
• Ability to perform basic math and use measuring tools for layout and verification.
• Possess own basic hand tools.

Nice To Haves

• Construction background and/or relevant experience or training.
• Experience in steel forming and cutting.
• Familiarity with hand/power tools (grinders, sanders, hand torches).
• Experience in shipfitting, carpentry, or metal fabrication.
• Experience with CNC cutting/forming equipment.
• Experience with bending steel plates and using oxy propane or plasma cutting equipment.
• Vocational, technical, or community college training or apprenticeship.
• Military experience.
