The Steamfitter Welder position within the Department of Facilities Management involves the installation, maintenance, and servicing of HVAC systems, which includes heating, cooling, pressurization, and ventilation equipment, as well as boilers, chillers, rooftop units, and built-in systems. The role also encompasses supporting infrastructure such as piping systems, pumps, and ductwork. The individual will be responsible for HVAC controls, including building automation systems, control panels, room sensors, and thermostats. While welding skills are not currently required, the candidate should be open to learning. The position requires working in various Milwaukee County facilities, including secured detention and high-security areas, which may involve handling sensitive information and assets.

  • Daily operation and monitoring of all building environmental systems.
  • Interaction with Building Automation System (BAS).
  • Chiller seasonal start-up/shut-down and chilled water system/cooling tower maintenance.
  • Boiler seasonal start-up, shut down and regular maintenance.
  • Steam supply/condensate return maintenance.
  • Daily monitoring, adjustments, and repair on temperature control systems, thermostats, and air compressor systems.
  • Reactive work including hot and cold calls, minor steam system/condensate leaks, valve replacement and/or repair.
  • Emergency work for problems with no heat or cooling, major steam system/condensate leaks and equipment breakdowns.
  • Completes all administrative tasks needed for work order systems, ordering materials and asset management.
  • Will be part of special projects for construction and capital project assistance.
  • Perform general duties as assigned and assist across departments as needed.
  • May be required to carry County-provided On Call phone on a rotating basis.
  • Resident of the State of WI.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as email and word processing.
  • Completion of either a state recognized Journeyman Steamfitter or Refrigeration Mechanic classification with at least 5 years of work experience.
  • Applicants must successfully undergo a criminal history background check to establish security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities and maintain this clearance throughout employment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing experience preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling License.
  • ASOPE Facility Operating Engineer 1st Class or Power Plant Operational Engineer 3rd Class or NIULPE 4th Class Engineer license.
  • $48.89 Per Hour
