Facilities Management & Construction (FMC) manages, operates, and maintains 55 City-owned buildings throughout the five boroughs, working to provide clean, safe, and energy efficient space for the tenants in these public buildings. FMC is dedicated to both the daily maintenance of the public buildings, managed by Building Services, Fire & Life Safety, and other critical field staff, as well as to long-term renovation and rehabilitation projects, which are managed by a dedicated staff of architects, engineers, and other professional technical experts. FMC also oversees the daily operations of all elevators across the DCAS public buildings portfolio. The Mechanical Maintenance and Operations group is responsible for the preventative maintenance, repairs and operations of various mechanical systems within 55+ DCAS-managed court and non-court buildings. They are also responsible for maintaining all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment for safe, reliable, and efficient operation, including seasonal tune-ups; filter, belt, steam trap replacement, lubrication and perform emergency repairs on a 24-hour basis. All Steam Fitters perform related work: - Some of the physical activities performed by Steam Fitters and the environmental conditions experienced are working in hot, uncomfortable environments; working with steam leaks; using 6 inches to 4-foot pipe wrenches; using combination wrenches with a 60-pound pull; climbing ladders and scaffolds to reach equipment 25 feet above the ground; moving large and heavy sections of pipe and lifting heavy objects. - Steamfitters, under supervision, perform work relating to installing, maintaining, and repairing piping, controls, and equipment for heating systems, compressed air systems, refrigerating systems, air conditioning systems, steam and hot water systems, fire suppression systems, cooling systems, and sprinkler systems. - They install boilers, feed water, vacuum and condensate equipment, fuel oil piping, and related auxiliary equipment; lay out work from
