About The Position

The team member we are searching for performs journey-level steam fitting tasks in accordance with standard trade practices. Responsibilities include supervising apprentices and helpers, installing piping for steam and hot water heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, fire sprinkler, pneumatic tube carrier, power, compressed air, hydraulic, fuel oil and control systems. The role also involves installing steam equipment such as boilers, burners, water heaters, radiators, heat exchangers, sterilizers and presses, and accessories such as pumps, governors, traps and valves. Additionally, the position requires diagnosing operating malfunctions and repairing equipment and piping systems, installing, calibrating and repairing various pneumatic, electric and electronic instruments and controls, checking installations for conformance with legal requirements and safety codes, inspecting water main fire hydrants, service lines, fire hose and extinguishers, installing and repairing iron pipe railings, supports and frames, and maintaining tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of steam fitting experience, including working in a powerplant and hydraulic equipment.
  • At least one year of experience in heating and air conditioning related to building construction.
  • One year at the journey-level, which applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee.
  • Completion of a five-year steam fitter apprenticeship program (Option II).
  • A valid California Class C Driver License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level steam fitting tasks in accordance with standard trade practices.
  • Supervise apprentices and helpers.
  • Install piping for steam and hot water heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, fire sprinkler, pneumatic tube carrier, power, compressed air, hydraulic, fuel oil and control systems.
  • Install steam equipment such as boilers, burners, water heaters, radiators, heat exchangers, sterilizers and presses.
  • Install accessories such as pumps, governors, traps and valves.
  • Diagnose operating malfunctions and repair equipment and piping systems.
  • Install, calibrate and repair various pneumatic, electric and electronic instruments and controls.
  • Check installations for conformance with legal requirements and safety codes.
  • Inspect water main fire hydrants, service lines, fire hose and extinguishers.

  • Maintain tools and equipment.
