The California Science Center (CSC) is seeking a Stationary Engineer to join their team. This position involves skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of various systems including boilers, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, lighting, power, water, and water treatment systems, access controls, and fire systems in state-owned and occupied buildings. The Stationary Engineer may also instruct or lead other engineers in the absence of supervision and perform other related work as required. The position is permanent and full-time, with a regular schedule from Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The first 2-4 weeks of onboarding will have a schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

  • Operate, maintain, and repair boilers and HVAC systems.
  • Manage lighting, power, water, and water treatment systems.
  • Oversee access controls and fire systems in state-owned buildings.
  • Instruct or lead other engineers in the absence of supervision.
  • Respond to urgent facility needs and prioritize work effectively.
  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and water treatment systems.
  • Experience with computerized building automation systems (BAS) and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Familiarity with Cal/OSHA, NFPA, and ASHRAE codes and safety standards.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to urgent facility needs.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for working with staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Experience leading or instructing others in the absence of direct supervision.
  • Possession of relevant certifications (e.g., EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling, OSHA 10/30) is desirable.
