About The Position

Stationary Engineer-91644 – Open to candidates who are permanent or those who have successfully filed for the Open-Competitive STATIONARY ENGINEER Exam No. 6101 within the filing period From: August 6, 2025, To: August 26, 2025, or the PROMOTION TO STATIONARY ENGINEER Exam No. 6549 also within the filing period From: August 6, 2025, To: August 26, 2025. Plant Operations is committed to supporting the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's focus on protecting and promoting the health of all New Yorkers by providing comprehensive building services. These services include multiple building trades responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the agency's owned and leased sites. The Stationary Engineer position is critical to the operation of the Public Health Lab, a 24/7/365 facility. The Engineering staff monitors all critical Building and Laboratory equipment and answers to emergencies as required. We need 24/7 additional coverage during the cooling and winter seasons to monitor and watch and adjust water levels, fire suppression, and manually perform duties where automation is failing.

Requirements

  • A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid license for a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
  • Also required is a certificate of qualification for refrigerating systems issued by the New York City Fire Department.
  • Candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. These licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and adjusting building maintenance systems as needed.
  • Cooling tower compliance maintaining, inspecting, testing and report deficiencies.
  • Operating, maintaining, and adjusting steam power plant and electromechanical building equipment.
  • Making periodic inspections and minor repairs to equipment. Reading and logging meters, gauges, and other recording devices.
  • Maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning HVAC, boilers, refrigeration systems, generators, condensers, and pumps.
  • Operating control consoles in control rooms.
  • Preparing requisitions for materials and spare parts.
  • Performing related duties and attending to emergencies as they arise.
