About The Position

The Stationary Engineer position operates, monitors, and maintains central plant and mechanical systems at Danville Correctional Center. This individual will also make scheduled and unscheduled rounds of power plant at regular intervals, actively control plant operations, and perform routine testing, treatment, and monitoring of water used for consumption and utility generation systems. In addition, they will support preventative maintenance execution and planning. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, task oriented, and organized. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
  • Requires the possession of or acquisition of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A. Section 608 Rules within 12 months of hire.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • This position requires the ability to work at heights, including on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, or elevated platforms, while adhering to all safety regulations and using appropriate fall protection measures.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers completion of current OSHA 10 training.
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of professional and/or journey level trades experience in the operation, repair, and preventative maintenance of boilers and/or other pressure vessels.
  • Prefers a candidate with a certification as a Universal Technician under U.S. E.P.A. Section 608 Rules and/or passed all three EPA Section 608 Technician Certification Types (I, II and III).
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience replacing pump seals, replacing bearing, and replacing motors.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience water testing for domestic consumption and/or generating systems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in the daily operation of boiler auxiliaries.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of chillers.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience monitoring and logging temperatures and pressures on air handling equipment.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of emergency power generation using a diesel generator.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years installing, troubleshooting and repairing HVAC equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, monitors, and maintains central plant and facility mechanical systems to ensure uninterrupted operation of housing units, support buildings, and security-critical infrastructure.
  • Makes unscheduled rounds and scheduled rounds at regular intervals to verify proper operation of mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems serving the facility.
  • Actively controls plant operations by starting, stopping, switching, and sequencing generators, pumps, and related systems during load changes, scheduled outages, testing, or emergency conditions.
  • Performs routine testing, treatment, and monitoring of water used for domestic consumption and utility generation systems, in accordance with applicable health, environmental, and departmental standards.
  • Supports preventive maintenance execution and planning to reduce unplanned outages and extend equipment life.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
