About The Position

The position involves operating and maintaining stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as steam engines, boilers, air compressors, generators, motors, medical gas equipment, and other auxiliary equipment to provide utility services for a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role requires working within clearly defined standard operating procedures and operating all campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps, and systems, optimizing efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures. The position also includes maintaining accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress, and completed work through logbooks and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Requirements

  • Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification from NIULPE or ASOPE.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes completion of technical training.
  • 2-4 years of Stationary Engineering experience.
  • Moderate knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operations.
  • Proficient computer skills including CMMS, building automation, and Microsoft Office.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all campus HVAC equipment including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and pumps.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports on equipment startup, failures, and maintenance through CMMS.
  • Utilizes Building Automation Systems (BAS) for monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment.
  • Responds to alarms and optimizes operation using trending reports.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots issues with HVAC equipment and executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to hospital operations.
  • Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records, and equipment repair files to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.
  • Documents all tasks and work time on the CMMS.
