About The Position

Station Manager Station Manger The Janel Group Station Manager is the leader of the terminal and is fully responsible for the day-to-day operation, performance, and safety of the station. This role operates independently as the sole manager on site, overseeing dispatch, dock operations, drivers, customer service, and overall execution. The Station Manager ensures freight moves safely, on time, and efficiently while keeping costs under control and maintaining a strong, accountable team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or terminal operations.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety requirements.
  • Hands-on leadership style — willing to be on the dock and in the operation daily.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible schedule to support terminal operations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily terminal activity, including dispatch, dock operations, freight flow, routing, and driver coordination.
  • Make real-time decisions to keep freight moving and solve problems as they arise.
  • Ensure loads are handled safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Plan staffing and resources to match daily volume.
  • Maintain accurate records and operational reporting.
  • Manage labor, equipment usage, and operating expenses.
  • Monitor productivity and service levels and take action when performance slips.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement practical improvements.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to build and expand local accounts and lanes, support pricing, and ensure the station can execute new or expanded business.
  • Enforce all safety policies and DOT regulations without exception.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a safe dock and yard.
  • Conduct safety meetings, investigate incidents, and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Ensure the station is always audit-ready.
  • Supervise drivers, dockworkers, and office staff.
  • Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable for performance and conduct.
  • Handle scheduling, coaching, discipline, and performance management.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
  • Build a team culture focused on accountability, reliability, and teamwork.
  • Keep senior leadership informed of operational performance, challenges, and staffing needs.
  • Escalate issues that impact safety, compliance, or service.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams to ensure smooth execution.
