About The Position

Statewide Planning Coordinator, Office of Policy Planning The Statewide Planning Coordinator plays a supporting role in shaping how millions of people travel across Florida. Your expertise in statewide planning and policy analysis, community planning and engagement, and other planning-related topics, will support FDOT’s Districts and Florida’s communities to help ensure the transportation system meets future needs. This position supports development of statewide transportation plans, collaborating with communities and partners, and facilitating impactful workshops and training to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and timely transportation solutions that keep Florida moving.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of transportation, land use, or economic policies.
  • Knowledge of community planning, transportation, and community engagement regulations, community/land use planning, resilience, economic development, and environmental planning.
  • Skill in community planning, transportation planning, community engagement, and policy analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate data related to transportation, interpret and apply transportation regulations, communicate effectively orally and in writing, make presentations, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and organize, plan and conduct various types of meetings.
  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in the field of transportation planning, community planning, community engagement, public involvement, strategic planning, policy analysis; or planning-related professional experience.
  • An associate in arts degree may substitute for two (2) years of the required work experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree may substitute for four (4) years of the required work experience.
  • A master’s degree may substitute for six (6) years of the required work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex policy analyses and reports.
  • Analyze, interpret and apply state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Evaluate statewide policy issues that affect transportation planning.
  • Develop policy alternatives and recommendations.
  • Assist with the development of statewide policy plans, including the Florida Transportation Plan (FTP) and implementation activities, Transportation Planning Exchange, and other planning-related program areas.
  • Review, prepare and support policy or planning activities related to the FTP, including community planning, conservation, resilience, and rural transportation planning and economic development.
  • Coordinate reviews with other Central Office and District staff and management.
  • Prepare and route comment and/or approval letters.
  • Maintain supporting documentation, maps, and other records.
  • Prepare and review related management policies and procedures or handbooks.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal and external parties on state, regional, and local transportation planning activities.
  • Support development of guidance and training for community engagement for transportation planning and other phases of project development.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings, workshops, and conferences, including developing the agenda, coordinating presenters, preparing presentations, giving presentations, facilitating meetings, and coordinating meeting logistics, meeting notices, meeting summaries, and other activities.
  • As assigned, serve as a representative on internal or external committees and working groups.
  • Prepare, review, produce and distribute brochures, documents, and web site content to promote planning activities.
  • Pursue and conduct research, studies, or other assigned special projects to support transportation planning and project delivery activities.
  • Initiate and manage task work orders, including providing direction and oversight of work products and services.
  • Assist with the department's response to emergencies as needed.
