Job Location: Limon, CO This position provides entry-level marketable job skills to inmate students by delivering career and technical culinary educational instruction and assessment within an adult educational correctional system/facility. Instruction is in accordance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and/or the Colorado State Licensing Board (if applicable). Job Duties Include: Teaches and mentors inmate students individually or in large and small group classrooms promoting occupational, academic and transitional performance skills; Determines educational needs of inmate students to develop short and long term goals; Plans course content and develops methods of instruction; Develops and implements competency-based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials; Provides hands-on training to teach and demonstrate skills, techniques, methods and procedures; Lectures on culinary theories, concepts, principles, and terminology; Selects and administers appropriate oral, written and/or performance assessments to inmate students in order to measures progress, course completion requirements, and to evaluate training/testing effectiveness; Ensures security, supervision and monitoring of inmate students, the storage and inventory of culinary tools, equipment, keys and hazardous material in accordance with CDOC regulations; Ensures tools and equipment are in proper working condition; Prepares reports and maintains records such as student grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details; Observes and evaluates inmate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement; Documents inmate vocational achievements, competencies and contact hours towards completion of certification requirements; Justifies accuracy and usage of budget requests; Participates in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field, and integrates relevant information into training programs; Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers in a cooperative effort to promote mutual and continued guidance and improvements; Actively contributes to the safety and security of the facility through effective inmate management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions; Encourages and promotes critical thinking, self discipline and self motivation for the inmate student population in order to provide the skills necessary to reintegrate into society. Safety & Security - This position maintains safety and security by training inmates, and will be required to work security posts, perform inmate counts, shakedowns, searches, escorts, movement control, and inmate access to classrooms. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in a culinary industry or related field of study ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in a culinary industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).
There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours as referenced above.
Experience MUST be described in detail on your application to receive credit.
Applicant must possess a current State of Colorado, national, industry, military, or union license/certification as appropriate for a culinary industry skill or related trade area (Note- Serve Safe will not qualify as a substitution) ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours verifiable occupational experience in a culinary industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

Must possess or obtain a CCCS post-secondary credential in the culinary field in compliance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) within six (6) months of date of hire.
Must obtain a Colorado Community College Professional Teacher Credential within three (3) years of date of hire.
Must maintain a Colorado Community College Initial/Professional Teacher Credential through the duration of employment.

Must be 21 years of age
Possess a valid driver's license. Drivers must maintain a valid, non-restricted Colorado driver license, obey traffic laws, and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. State drivers are expected to maintain a safe driving record consistent with Colorado Division of Human Resources Universal Policy Driving Standards. Eligibility to drive a State-owned vehicle, includes holding a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment or residency change and meeting specific driving record criteria. Serious traffic violations, including DUIs or reckless driving, can disqualify drivers for up to seven years. All State Vehicles are monitored by telematics for safe operation and employees have no reasonable expectation of privacy while using an agency State Fleet vehicle.
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Have NO felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The CDOC shall not hire nor promote anyone who may have contact with an offender who has engaged in sexual abuse which includes acts, activity, and sexual behavior, in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents.

Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics
Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist
Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down
Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows
Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows
Swing a baton in a striking technique
Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic
Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions
Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security
Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently

TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
Successful completion of a background investigation is required. Should applicant's background reveal criminal charges, it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Department of Corrections with written/official disposition of any charges.
Employees (see exception below) may use marijuana in their personal time but are prohibited from working while under the influence of any substance, including marijuana. A drug test will be administered to all new employees; employees must successfully pass. Random drug screening will occur throughout employment.
