The Role You will be a part of the Americas Policy team and will cover the 25 western US states monitoring legislation and regulations that would apply to Block. You will help develop and run Block's policy and public affairs strategy for the Western US. You will join a 3 person state team with one colleague covering the other 25 states and one operations person helping the two people splitting the country. You Will Affect the outcome of public policy processes before the legislative & executive branches of state government. Build positive relations with governmental officials & institutions as well as outside organizations involved in the formation of public policy with the help of on the ground consultants and trade associations. Work closely with the Central Policy team to review legislation, amend based on strategic positions, and identify trends across states. Develop thoughtful recommendations for both proactive and reactive engagement with policymakers and regulators. Guide processes to develop impactful responses to incoming policy challenges and opportunities.

  • Affect the outcome of public policy processes before the legislative & executive branches of state government.
  • Build positive relations with governmental officials & institutions as well as outside organizations involved in the formation of public policy with the help of on the ground consultants and trade associations.
  • Work closely with the Central Policy team to review legislation, amend based on strategic positions, and identify trends across states.
  • Develop thoughtful recommendations for both proactive and reactive engagement with policymakers and regulators.
  • Guide processes to develop impactful responses to incoming policy challenges and opportunities.
  • 5+ years experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, government relations and/or legal roles.
  • Experience managing complex policy matters, working collaboratively across teams, and advocating on behalf of policy issues.
  • Sound and practical business judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in project management and delivery.
  • Communication and advocacy skills; an ability to explain complicated issues and policy positions to any audience
  • Critical thinking skills; an ability to be thinking about the strategy from all different sides as well as solving complex problems or roadblocks
  • Experience in financial services legal and/or regulatory roles is preferred.
