This is a Peace Officer Position. To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer. If you are not a current peace officer and in possession of a POST - Academy, Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate, you are not eligible for this position. The State Park Peace Officer (K9) performs patrol, public safety and law enforcement, and visitor services duties required to provide a safe, efficient, and enjoyable visitor experience within the Redwood Coast Sector (RCS) and its zones of impact. This is a dynamic State Park position with opportunities in all core programs. The incumbent will be responsible for all general Ranger duties including public safety and enforcement, working with seasonal employees, interpretation, day use and campground operations, cultural and natural resource management, volunteers, special events and filming. Appointment to the Canine position to be based on an interview, physical fitness and skills assessment, not seniority. Skills testing may involve proficiency evaluation or scenarios involving firearms, defensive tactics and first aid. In order to be eligible for this position, candidates must have a minimum of two years' experience as a DPR State Park Peace Officer (Ranger).
