About The Position

This internship position offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in park management and environmental education within Pennsylvania's state park system. Interns will work closely with park personnel to enhance visitor experiences and contribute to various park initiatives, while also learning about resource stewardship and compliance with park regulations.

Requirements

  • Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program in Park and Resource Management, Environmental Science, Conservation, Wildlife Technology, or Environmental Education.
  • Completion of freshman year with a good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • Possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with park personnel on various initiatives related to park management and environmental education.
  • Interact with visitors in both office and field settings to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of environmental education and interpretive programs.
  • Help formulate interpretive and recreational program plans and coordinate activities.
  • Develop exhibits and informational materials for the Hills Creek State Park Complex.
  • Understand and implement statewide regulations, policies, and procedures related to park operations.
  • Assist in overseeing maintenance programs to ensure park grounds, facilities, and equipment are well-maintained.
  • Gain exposure to law enforcement activities within state parks and ensure compliance with park rules and regulations.
  • Support special events and collaborate with volunteers to contribute to park initiatives.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required for safety during tasks.
  • Operate a state vehicle to travel between work headquarters and various park locations.
