Overview We are seeking an experienced State & Local Tax (SALT) Managing Director to help grow our Texas Income & Franchise SALT practice. This role is ideal for a senior tax professional who combines deep technical expertise, strong client leadership, and a proven ability to build business and teams. The position offers the opportunity to shape strategy, services, and middle market presence. Our State & Local Tax (SALT) practice is comprised of approximately 300 professionals. Requirements

  • 13 years of progressive experience in State & Local Tax, primarily within public accounting preferred
  • Deep technical expertise in multi‑state SALT, with strength in income/franchise.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client management, and practice growth.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex engagements, and communicate effectively with internal and external clients
  • CPA, JD, LLM, and/or CMI required
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on complex, multi‑state income/franchise SALT matters, and related compliance, consulting and controversy issues.
  • Lead and oversee high‑profile SALT engagements, ensuring technical excellence, practical solutions, and timely delivery.
  • Provide strategic tax planning and risk management guidance tailored to clients’ business objectives.
  • Actively identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities.
  • Build and expand client relationships through cross‑selling and integrated service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of new SALT service offerings and market‑driven solutions.
  • Support proposal development, pricing strategies, and go‑to‑market initiatives.
  • Enhance the firm’s SALT profile through speaking engagements, articles, webinars, and industry participation.
  • Stay ahead of legislative and regulatory developments and translate changes into client‑ready insights.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop professionals at all levels, fostering a high‑performance and collaborative culture.
  • Serve as a career advisor and role model for future leaders within the SALT practice.
  • Participate in recruiting, training, and performance management activities.
  • Collaborate with firm and tax leadership on strategy, growth initiatives, and operational priorities.
  • Manage engagement economics, including budgeting, staffing, and profitability.
