Requirements

  • 4+ years relevant work experience in an accounting firm, with at least 3 years of State and Local Tax Experience
  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related degree
  • Advanced degree- JD, LLM, MST, LLM (Preferred)
  • Advanced credential allowing for client representation before the Internal Revenue Service, the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance, New York City Department of Finance or other State Taxing Authorities and Appeals Agencies required (i.e. CPA or JD)
  • Member of the New York State Bar (Preferred)
  • Self-starter with the initiative to seek out opportunities and ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Proficient use of technology

Responsibilities

  • Engage in business development activities (i.e. prepare proposals, present in webinars, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Federal Tax Compliance Groups to ensure a comprehensive multi-jurisdictional tax strategy
  • Review and analyze state and local personal and corporate tax returns, including sales and use, personal property and employment tax returns
  • Provide tax controversy / audit support and representation before state tax authorities and appeals' agencies
  • Lead consulting engagements and identify client solutions
  • Conduct and review research to remain current with legislative changes
  • Review memoranda and additional client deliverables
  • Prepare and review Nexus Studies
  • Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate Seniors, Associates, and Interns
