About The Position

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a State Hospital IT Deskside Support professional to join its Health and Specialty Care Services (HSCS) division. HHSC is committed to creating a positive impact and supporting its employees. HSCS provides specialized care for Texans in need, operating ten psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers, all accredited by The Joint Commission. This role involves performing complex work under the moderate direction of the HSCS Information Technology Customer Service and Support (ITCSS) State Hospital Branch Manager. The position oversees activities related to Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), including network design, installation, training, evaluation of potential network enhancements, and customer support. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with HHSC and Department of Information Resources (DIR) policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures, contributing to a valued and supported atmosphere while making a difference in the lives of Texans.

  • Completion of CompTIA A+ training required within first year of employment.
  • Experience in supporting Microsoft Windows desktop operating system in a local (LAN) or wide area (WAN) network environment.
  • Experience in providing hands on support for personal computer hardware and peripherals in a (LAN) or wide area (WAN) network environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as front line technical support for PC workstation hardware, software, and network/telecommunications connectivity for local and remote personnel.
  • Perform PC desktop support, troubleshoot, and repair hardware and software, documenting issues in the Help Desk system according to Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain hardware for Local Area Network (LAN) services.
  • Assist in supporting Wide Area Network (WAN) equipment and services, including cable, hub/switch installations, and limited router support.
  • Monitor performance and act as a liaison to the Data Center Services (DCS) vendor for network server hardware, operating systems, and backup/recovery services.
  • Perform limited server duties, such as adding new users and establishing rights/privileges, as agency responsibilities not covered by DCS.
  • Install and maintain hardware and software on agency workstations, ensuring patch levels, connectivity, and security software are adequate.
  • Provide limited instruction and user support to customer staff and local partner agencies on IT systems, hardware, software, utilities, and HHSC computer usage policies.
  • Conduct product evaluations for new and upgraded software, identifying potential benefits and recommending network facility enhancements.
  • Actively participate in or support agency obligations for disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, including public health needs.
