About The Position

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is seeking to fill a seasonal full-time, 43-week State Harness Racing Technician position out of Cumberland. The primary purpose of the position is to help with veterinary laboratory diagnosis, testing and related routine medical procedures.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience handling horses, including participation in or familiarization with urine and/or blood sample collection activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those with experience in working with equine and bovine animals and knowledge of routine/emergency medical care of large animals.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining blood samples for testing.
  • Helping the Veterinarian during emergency medical procedures.
  • Overseeing and monitoring the collection of urine samples from racehorses and for obtaining test samples from draft animals at pulling events at agricultural fairs.
  • Preparing for shipment and delivering collected samples to designated testing facilities.
  • Transporting and assisting in the setup of on-site testing and other equipment.
  • Delivering paperwork and money to the Augusta office.
  • Delivering supplies from Augusta to the work site.
