About The Position

The State Government Affairs Manager at American Electric Power (AEP) plays a crucial role in representing the corporation's interests before state legislative bodies and government entities. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in public policy, public relations, communications, or related disciplines.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in community/public affairs, communications, or related experience in the industry.
• Alternatively, a minimum of 6 years' experience with the state legislature, state government, or comparable state work.
• Valid Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Help develop, organize and implement corporate policy and strategy for effective state representation.
• Educate state legislators, their staff, and state government about the goals, objectives, and needs of the Corporation.
• Develop and maintain a broad base of legislative, government, and industry contacts at every level.
• Gather and interpret legislative and government information that may impact corporate business.
• Confer with legislators and officials to influence the passage, defeat, or amendment of specific bills.
• Maintain relationships with associations, organizations, and public advocacy groups.
• Market and sell corporate issues and legislative initiatives to the state legislature and government.
• Support corporate grassroots initiatives and Political Action Committee (PAC) activities.
