About The Position

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way. Americans for Prosperity is part of the Stand Together philanthropic community. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented State Government Affairs intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in state government relations and public policy. You will assist with various government affairs projects, including Capitol Leaders event support, creating policy materials, social media outreach, and advocacy efforts, while also gaining exposure to the legislative process and the work of a government affairs team.

Requirements

• Strong interest in government affairs, public policy, and the legislative process
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
• Ability to work with basic direction and move forward with initiative and critical thinking
• Ability to meet deadlines and act with appropriate sense of urgency
• Enthusiastic about and dedicated to the vision and principles of our organization

Responsibilities

• Legislative research: Monitor and track state-level legislation, regulations, and public policy developments relevant to the organization's priorities
• Prepare briefings: Compile research and prepare summaries and reports for internal stakeholders
• Government relations support: Support outreach with state legislators, government agencies, and other stakeholders
• General administrative support: Assist with day-to-day operations of the government affairs office, including scheduling, preparing materials, and coordinating meetings
