About The Position

The State Construction Structural Engineer, Transportation Engineer 4, Office of Construction Administration, PN 20050502 is responsible for leading structures policy and standards, providing technical oversight and support, ensuring quality assurance and reviews, developing specifications, drafting policies, and conducting training and outreach. This role involves developing and updating statewide specifications, quality assurance programs, and the Construction Inspection Manual to ensure consistency across districts. The engineer will provide expert guidance on structural construction issues, review complex projects, and advise on contract compliance and change orders. Additionally, the engineer will conduct Technical Process Reviews (TPRs), prepare annual Quality Assurance Reports (QARs), and perform on-site evaluations. The position also includes working with design and research teams to evaluate and support the use of new materials and construction methods through specification updates, drafting policies and procedures to support consistent practices, and designing and delivering online training for local governments, construction staff, and contractor associations using tools like Microsoft Office.

Requirements

  • Licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
  • 2 years of experience as group or project leader or supervisor providing work direction & training to employees engaged in engineering projects.
  • 2 years of experience in managing engineering research projects.
  • If assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Or licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors with 12 months of experience as Transportation Engineer 3.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
