About The Position

The State Building Inspector II is responsible for supervising the enforcement and implementation of building codes, conducting inspections of buildings and amusement devices, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role involves providing technical assistance, investigating complaints, and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders in the construction industry. The Inspector plays a crucial role in protecting public health and safety by ensuring that construction practices adhere to state laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • At least five years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in building construction supervision or design.
  • Current and valid Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner certification issued by the Department of Public Safety.
  • Current and valid national Association of Amusement Rides Safety Officials (NAARSO) certification or AIMS certification.
  • Possession of a Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

  • Experience with high-rise buildings or large-scale building projects.
  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in architecture or engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the enforcement and implementation of the building code.
  • Develop and deliver training related to building safety and compliance.
  • Inspect new and occupied buildings and structures for compliance with safety standards.
  • Inspect amusement devices to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Investigate building code complaints and violations, issuing notices of violation as necessary.
  • Witness tests on various building safety devices and systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to builders and local officials regarding building codes.
  • Review local building inspection decisions and practices for compliance with state codes.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with federal, state, and municipal agencies involved in building construction.
  • Represent the agency at public and private boards, commissions, and in court as needed.
