The STAT Nurse RN will provide clinical support and direct patient care in a variety of inpatient units during peak periods of activity. The STAT Nurse RN will provide episodic nursing care, assist with patient flow, respond to Rapid Response, Code Stroke, Trauma and Code-Blue calls, supports the clinical staff and Nursing Supervisors, work as a procedural Nurse for after-hour cases and emergency procedures, lend assistance with starting difficult I.V.s, and specialize in critical care and emergency nursing.

Requirements

  • 2 Year/Associate Degree in Nursing, required
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a RN in the Critical Care or Emergency Department setting, required
  • Minimum 5 years RN experience, required
  • Current NYS License as a Registered Nurse, required
  • BLS Certification, required
  • ACLS Certification, required
  • Must have one of the following certifications: CCRN, TNCC or TCAR Certification, required

Responsibilities

  • Acts as first responders to various emergency codes, including Code Blue, Code Stroke, Rapid Responses, and Trauma
  • Assess, evaluate, and stabilize patients who are experiencing sudden declines in health, whether in general care areas, ED, affiliate locations, or the ICU
  • Assist with procedures like starting IVs, managing moderate sedation, and performing other bedside interventions
  • Deliver direct patient care in emergency situations, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and providing respiratory support
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, acting as a liaison during emergencies
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to assess situations, identify problems, and implement appropriate interventions
  • Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparations
  • Collects, analyzes and records relevant patient health data accurately, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation
  • Implements and records interventions appropriate, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by direct supervisory observation and random supervisory chart review
  • Demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care, as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback
  • Effectively precepts new staff members or students as determined by preceptee/student feedback and direct managerial observation
  • Ability to function in charge nurse or leadership capacity as determined by practice arena
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, 100% of the time, as measured by no significant, substantiated patient or peer complaints received by the manager/supervisor
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures, 100% of the time, as measured by random supervisory chart review
  • Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner 100% of the time, as measured by co-worker and patient feedback and managerial observation
  • Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice
  • Provides proof of current licensure validation to supervisor. (To achieve excellence, one must do this in a proactive, timely manner prior to due date)
  • Completes required credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor
  • Provides to supervisor evidence of completion of all required training and competency validation. (To achieve excellence, one must take personal responsibility for this task and complete by the due date)
  • Participates in level appropriate number of hours of educational activity, according to pathway, related to job function annually and provides documented evidence of attendance or activity to supervisor
  • Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability through written exemplar, patient/family feedback, co-worker report or direct managerial observation
  • Participates in quality improvement processes for the department and institution as assigned and as measured by supervisory observation
  • Demonstrates operational problem-solving ability through written exemplar, coworker report or direct managerial observation
  • Coordinates performance improvement initiative demonstrating good organizational skills and follow-through as determined by direct managerial observation
  • Develops and evaluates systems for orienting new staff and students as demonstrated by direct managerial observation
  • Contributes to the body of nursing knowledge through use of research and participation in professional practice committees and organizations as measured by portfolio review and managerial observation
  • Participates in nursing research
  • Commits to an attitude of inquiry, research-based practice, and the advancement of nursing science as observed by managerial observation
  • Helps to identify clinical problems requiring investigation as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation
  • Assists in the collection of data within a structured format as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation
  • Partners with senior nurses to use research findings in clinical practice as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation
