About The Position

Purpose: Provides strong customer service, ensures superior product quality, and maintains fresh inventory levels. Has full working knowledge of all Starbucks department functions. Responsible for keeping inventory fresh, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of Starbucks department operations and overall company procedures.
  • Able to reach, lift, and maneuver items up to 40 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion required.
  • Must comply with grooming and dress code standards.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand–eye coordination required; able to stand for long periods.
  • Must remain mentally alert; requires basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, handling, standards, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department policies.
  • Uses equipment including utensils, coffee grinders, coffee machines, espresso machines, blenders, ovens, microwaves, electronic devices, registers, printers, and pallet jacks.
  • Uses cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards due to equipment and tools necessary for job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an enthusiastic atmosphere focused on fast and friendly customer service.
  • Assists customers, makes product suggestions, and fills special orders.
  • Answers incoming calls, responds appropriately, and resolves customer complaints; escalates issues to the Store Director as needed.
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques via phone, intercom announcements, and direct customer interaction.
  • Has full knowledge of all department duties; oversees and assists with preparation, brewing, and serving food and beverage items.
  • Implements proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques.
  • Uses and operates equipment including kitchen utensils, ovens, microwave ovens, coffee grinders, coffee machines, espresso machines, blenders, printers, and pallet jacks.
  • Ensures hot and cold foods meet company standards.
  • Brews coffee and tea according to recipes and guidelines.
  • Operates the electronic cash register, totals customer bills, accepts payment, and makes correct change.
  • Maintains knowledge of bar layout and proper procedures.
  • Maintains display case cleanliness, freshness, and visual appeal.
  • Ensures cleanliness, sanitation, and proper appearance of the Starbucks area and equipment.
  • Ensures temperatures are maintained during preparation, display, and storage.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees; ensures adequate staffing and service levels.
  • Trains employees on store policies, sales processes, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Identifies and develops high‑potential employees for advancement.
  • Plans daily operations and monitors production processes for efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports; conducts physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Controls inventory to maintain proper product quantity, quality, and freshness; stocks and rotates product; organizes cooler.
  • Understands and performs opening and closing procedures.
  • Builds displays, rotates product, and removes outdated or spoiled items.
  • Follows company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures proper code dating of all Starbucks products.
  • Monitors employee productivity and evaluates performance.
  • Initiates personnel actions including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps.
  • Maintains department standards and handles quick‑sale items appropriately.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Performs receiving duties: breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Adheres to temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines.
  • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Completes and monitors daily logs, production sheets, par charts, and sales and labor reports.
  • Controls shrink and costs.
  • Attends sales meetings and communicates sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to employees.
  • Ensures accurate pricing, signage, and compliance with labeling laws and company policies.
  • Complies with workplace safety rules and maintains a clean, safe working environment including sales floor, work area, cooler, freezer, equipment, and displays.
  • Uses emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software issues.
  • Performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs other required duties as assigned.

  • Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans.
  • For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
