A Day in the Life of a Barista Works as a team member of Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) as a barista in the coffee shop. Takes customer orders, operates a cash register, prepares beverages and maintains operations. Follows safety & sanitary guidelines & keeps work areas clean & sanitized.   • Assists with beverage preparation adhering to presentation standards; operates a variety of beverage making equipment; measures and mixes ingredients for coffee shop drinks according to recipe; stocks and maintains line supplies; follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products; and assists with side duties as needed.
  • Assists in opening and/or closing the coffee shop. Prepares for service before opening the coffee shop; sets up and stocks the retail area. Ensures signage is accurate and clean, maintains supplies to par levels, and assists with side duties as needed.
  • Demonstrates stewardship through inventory and food waste control. Conducts weekly physical inventory counts of coffee shop raw materials. Responsible for utilizing a daily pull sheet to keep track of raw material expenses.
  • Assists as needed with retail operations in the Greenhouse Grill to include; operating the Point-Of-Sale (POS) system, pre-preparing and serving food, cleaning and stocking.
  • Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment and follows all department and regulator rules and procedures. Follows Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)/ServSafe procedures to ensure proper sanitation and safety standards. Maintains HACCP records according to established department guidelines ensuring continued accuracy of information.
  • Operates a cash register, POS, or equivalent; receives payments of cash and charges from customers and employees; makes change and issue receipts or tickets. Maintains proper security of cash at all times; verifies cash register total at the beginning of a shift; records totals and summarize funds received; assists in locating, reconciling and verifying the accuracy of transactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff
  • Ability to promote efficient flow of beverage production
  • Intermediate computer skills and the ability to operate the food service computer system
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and recipes
  • Knowledge of (POS)/cash register systems
  • Ability to use proper phone etiquette, scripting calls and following protocols
  • Ability to work independently with excellent organizational skills, sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a high volume and high stress environment with varying hours and shifts
  • Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
  • One (1) or more years of customer service experience
  • Restaurant, hotel, foodservice, or hospital setting experience
