About The Position

The STAR EMT-B position at Denver Health involves providing essential healthcare support as part of the Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) vehicle. The role focuses on attending to patients during STAR responses, assisting mental health clinicians, and ensuring safe operation of department vehicles. The EMT-B will perform basic life support (BLS) care, document calls, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders, all while adhering to safety protocols and standards.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years of EMS experience or patient care required.
• EMTB-EMT Basic certification in Colorado required.
• Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Valid Colorado Driver's License Class R required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in mental health support or assessment.
• Familiarity with Denver Health EMT-Basic Protocols.

Responsibilities

• Safely manage STAR vehicles, maintaining control and adhering to traffic laws.
• Support mental health clinicians during calls and assist in the assessment and referral process.
• Initiate BLS procedures in accordance with current standards and protocols.
• Evaluate the extent of illness or injury and establish priorities for care.
• Document every STAR call and communicate with dispatch and other crews.
