About The Position

The Standardized Patient Educator position at the University of Minnesota is a full-time role based in Minneapolis, specifically within the new Health Sciences Education Center. This position is designed to be completely on-campus and is not remote. The educator will report to the Lead Standardized Patient Educator and will play a crucial role in the recruitment and preparation of participants for the Standardized Patient (SP) Program. The SPs are individuals who are recruited and compensated to portray patients and community members in role-play scenarios with health science learners. They provide constructive feedback and assess the learners' performance, particularly in medical interviewing, communication, and physical examination skills. The SP Educator is responsible for ensuring the preparation of SPs, maintaining standardization in their portrayal, and ensuring consistency in assessment to meet educational objectives and program requirements. This role is part of the human simulation team within M Simulation, which is recognized as one of the most active healthcare simulation education programs in the United States, implementing over 40,000 learner contact hours annually. The educator will collaborate with the simulation team to develop and implement complex projects, support diversity and inclusion in healthcare simulation, and contribute to the growth of human simulation at the University of Minnesota. The position requires flexibility, as it may involve evening and weekend assignments. The educator will also be involved in training development, event logistics support, and other duties as assigned, ensuring that the SP Program policies are implemented effectively and that training practices align with the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) Standards of Best Practices. The role demands excellent communication skills, proficiency in technology, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
