About The Position

This position represents Washington's State Surplus Operations as an Auctioneer. Surplus Operations' primary responsibilities are to keep State and Federal surplus property out of landfills (reutilizing property wherever possible) and to maximize the dollars that are returned to agencies. This role contributes to the agency mission by promoting sustainability and savings while maximizing the useful life of state assets and dollars returned to agencies. The Surplus Inventory Control Specialist 2 primary responsibility is being customer centric and delivering the best customer service to our partnering agencies and our purchasing customers. The position is also responsible for working with the owning agencies and their assets to maintain our 60-day commitment to return proceeds to disposing agencies by promptly returning all phone calls, emails and relisting all defaulted auctions. The incumbent will be required to receive, count items in a warehouse inventory system, and record the data either manually or on a computer. This position is established as the primary position to execute the processes of online warehouse auctions, in a timely manner. This position determines the most cost effective sale/disposal format, while minimizing environmental impact and transportation costs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience evaluating a large variety of products and using asset comparison and research to create auction sales (experience may include but are not limited to: direct sales, vehicle sales, online sales, direct marketing, writing sales ads for major media sources such as online, paper or television)
  • Proficient computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet)
  • Ability to take and edit digital photographs for the purpose of online sales
  • Ability to research, understand and share product knowledge professionally through text and speech
  • Ability to multitask; respond to emails, answer phone calls, and face to face interactions from both the public and partnering government agencies
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. or more on a regular basis and 75 lbs. or more occasionally
  • Must possess a valid WA State Driver's License free from serious traffic violations

Responsibilities

  • Selling of surplus property at the Tumwater location via online auctions through GovDeals.com
  • Prepare online listings of surplus property (vehicles, equipment, warehouse items, etc.) for sale to priority and public customers
  • Maximize efficiency and ensures that online vehicle auctions are priced and sold in a manner that supports The Department of Enterprise initiative of 'Financial Health' and Surplus Business Plan
  • Manages vehicle inventory for all assets located at the Tumwater location
  • Works with receiving staff to ensure best practices are being employed during auction preparation
  • Contributes to warehouse intake area goals by maintaining maximum stock of 40-60% capacity
  • Perform daily checks for withdrawn auctions and no bids to amend and get materials back online or disposed of
  • Performs weekly inventory checks to ensure accuracy and to locate discrepancies
  • Properly record inventory control in database in adherence with operational standards
  • Work with government agency contacts to assess their needs and work towards improvement of their experience and maximize their ROI on their assets
  • Adhere to all guidelines, policies, WAC's and RCW's to ensure appropriate turnaround time on movement of sold or unsold products
  • Answer customer via email, phone or in person questions regarding listings
  • Works in concert with leadership and peers to maintain a positive, proactive working relationship with public and priority customers and co-workers
  • Provide positive customer service to both the buyer and seller of assets that are on auction
  • Communication with agencies & team members will be clear, effective, professional
  • Work with all Surplus Teams as needed to fulfill daily tasks
  • Work with transportation staff and places surplus items in the correct area of the warehouse while maintaining organization
  • Assist in load outs, vehicle jump-starts, and freight prep
  • Inspect lift equipment pre-shift to ensure it is safe to use and to document potential maintenance issues
