About The Position

Under the administrative supervision of Mirror’s Director of Prevention, the STAND Coordinator will work with youth teams in each STAND high school as well as regional and county leadership board(s). With the goal of building supportive thriving teams of youth in each participating community, the Coordinator will work to engage youth in messaging and creative prevention strategies, train youth and adults in best practices, and support adult sponsors to carry out required prevention education, mental health promotion, and community service projects. Coordinator will work with local partners, coalitions, and community stakeholders to develop strategic action plans that reduce youth substance use and build in protective factors that buffer kids from risk.

Requirements

Graduate of a four-year accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Education, Social work, Sociology, Psychology (or equivalent combination of education and experience.)
Past experience or demonstrated skill in establishing and cultivating strong relationships with youth.
Capacity to listen and learn from youth experience, incorporate youth input, and challenge youth to grow.
Ability to be sensitive and responsive to cultural and ethnic differences of the population served.
Skill in developing collaborative relationships with adults in community and school.
Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Capable of maintaining a team spirit.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Must be adaptable to change and have effective organizational skills.
Employee must be able to organize and follow through on multiple tasks and have a proven ability to work independently.
Participate in specialized training or continuing education in the programs dealing with the prevention of substance abuse in youth.
Display consistent, good judgment and decision-making skills.
Must be able to pass agency required background or security check.
Employees who have been diagnosed with any type of substance use disorder or behavioral health addiction/compulsion must have sustained a minimum of two consecutive years of abstinence from all intoxicating substances and symptoms of their chemical and/or behavioral addiction; and must be in full sustained remission.
Understanding of basic media skills, relations, and methods.
This position may also involve bending, walking stairs, and lifting 40 pounds on occasion.
Must be able to carry items related to your presentations from office to training site.

Nice To Haves

Experience or skill development in public relations and/or public speaking is desirable.

Responsibilities

STAND Sponsor Oversight – Oversee and engage all STAND adult sponsors representing teams of youth. Train them in prevention best practices, STAND’s evidence-based structure, and accomplishing annual expectations of youth teams involved with the program.
STAND Leader Oversight – Coordinate program-wide efforts of all STAND youth. Empower youth to take the lead with initiatives and peer-to-peer messaging in each school and community to change the culture around youth substance use. Assist in engaging additional teams of youth in new STAND communities.
Community Relationships – Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with school and community partners. Coordinator will engage school administrators, sharing accomplishments, reports, and purpose with the superintendents and principals of schools whenever possible. Coordinators also look for partnership opportunities with school clubs, teachers, and organizations to expand and share STAND’s mission.
Documentation and Reporting – Document program activities for grant requirements according to deadlines. Documentation of numbers, data, and accomplishments, timely submission of grant reports, and communicating quarterly or semiannually throughout the year to stake holders, school personnel, community leaders, students, and staff.
Campaign/Message Design – Design relevant prevention messaging/campaigns using best practices and youth input. Create brochures, flyers, and other effective youth messaging and campaign materials to impact peers, ensuring cultural competence and messaging is within the scope of the program.
Sustainability – Together with community partners, look for funding opportunities within STAND communities to sustain initiatives within new communities including private donations, local and state grant opportunities, and fundraisers.
Continued Learning – Attend relevant training, seminars, workshops, and classes to enhance skills and expertise.
Basic Computer Skills – Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, familiar with main social media platforms used by youth, and a basic understanding of Excel.
ATOD Knowledge – Familiarity with or the ability to become familiar with Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug community assessment data, trends, and prevention science planning and theoretical models.
Other – Carry out duties assigned by the Prevention Program Director.
