The Stamping Tooling Engineer will define and deliver manufacturing processes in support of current and future-model vehicle programs at Ford Dearborn Tool & Die in Dearborn, MI. Successful candidates will support the engineering of stamping dies for quality loop progression through data analysis, simulations and model development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND / OR Tool & Die Journeyman’s Card
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience: Die Process, CAD Draw Development, Die Design, Die Construction and / or Tryout
  • Experience with stamping and machining processes
  • Must be capable of conducting early stamping process feasibility evaluations in an integrated CAD/CAE environment
  • Must be able to perform simulations of stamping processes for comprehensive formability and dimensional evaluation
  • Must support the die design sections
  • Must be fluent with at least one stamping process simulation software: Dyna, Autoform or ESI PamStamp
  • Practical CAD experience, CATIA V5 and TeamCenter a plus
  • Good verbal and written skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, metallurgy, materials science or related field
  • Ability to support die try-out: Understand stamping dimensional errors and correction
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of delivering objectives with minimal direct supervision
  • Experience in planning, implementation, and onsite launch of manufacturing systems
  • 5+ years of automotive manufacturing experience
  • Proficiency in GD&T, part fixturing, holding datums, and tolerance stack-ups

Responsibilities

  • Drive “Voice of Manufacturing” throughout product development lifecycle to ensure robust, feasible, and manufacturable stamped panels.
  • Deliver production work – Meet all modeling timing & quality deliverables.
  • Create models for each die operation based off quality improvement requirements
  • Run FEA simulations, obtain results from models and analyze
  • Analyze data for correction loop implementation requirements
  • Create morphs
  • Modify die face models (spring back compensation / formability) until product quality intent is achieved
  • Create / Update line die face models to address nest, forming tool geometries, etc.
  • Optimize die face models iteratively to achieve required panel quality
  • Analyze and update holes & trim edges to address morphing results
  • Update stamping die process information for the communication of continuous improvement feedback for future model usage.
  • Perform simulations of stamping processes for comprehensive formability evaluation.
  • Optimize stamping processes: Perform draw and line die simulations and remain extensively involved in taking corrective measures to resolve stamping concerns through the refinement of product design and the stamping process until the launch of production to ensure that the manufactured stamping quality is in adherence to Ford standards.
  • Support die design and tooling problem resolution during tool construction and tryout.
