About The Position

Ozarks Electric, headquartered in Fayetteville, Arkansas with offices in Springdale, Arkansas, Stilwell, and Westville Oklahoma incorporated in 1938, is a member-owned electric cooperative, serving more than 90,000 meters across nine counties in Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. The Staking Technician I may be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of NESC, OSHA, and RUS specifications related to electric service.
  • Must have a good understanding of the Cooperative's safety rules and practices.
  • Must have at least one-year prior progressive experience or training in system design, surveying or other related field.
  • Must be able to use small sledgehammer, transit, level, machete, and chain saw.
  • Must be able to operate pickup truck in unfavorable road conditions.
  • Must be able to use a notebook computer and GPS/GIS unit in staking applications.
  • Must have a valid driver's license without violation, which would prohibit insurability.
  • Must be able to learn and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Must be able to complete single-phase work orders in an accurate, detailed, and expedient manner.
  • Must be able to walk and/or hike over rough and heavily forested terrain in unfavorable conditions.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs for service drops and short taps with minimum supervision.
  • Obtains easements on a limited basis.
  • Assists in the design of large services, system improvements and conversions.
  • Assists in the design of electrical facilities in and serving underground developments.
  • Performs visual inspection and pole ground line checks for system integrity.
  • Performs field inventories and develops as-built records using GPS/GIS equipment.
  • Calculates the anchor lead and strengths needed for various dead-end tensions and angle configurations.
  • Performs other such duties as required or requested by the position.
