The Staffing Support Specialist assists in the management and coordination of Nursing and institutional resources to ensure effective patient care and Nursing operations. This role involves performing various administrative functions in partnership with management to ensure smooth and effective operations. The specialist acts as a liaison with ancillary departments such as Environmental Services, Maintenance, Transportation, and Food and Nutrition to ensure that staff and patient needs are met. Additionally, the specialist assists nursing management by making hospital rounds, responding to emergency codes, and communicating with staff as needed. The role also includes implementing and completing processes for accurate documentation, reporting, and disposition of patient death, interacting with families and staff to provide assistance and obtain information for the Death Information/Donor Notification process following regulatory requirements, and contacting the Organ Procurement Organization to provide requested information. The Staffing Support Specialist partners with nursing staff and the Hospital Supervisor to identify staffing needs by reviewing census, staffing patterns, and call-ins for each unit, communicates staffing issues to unit Head(s), and initiates obtaining needed staff from the Float Pool, reassignment, or requesting employees to work additional hours. The specialist monitors overtime usage and utilizes overtime or cancels staff as appropriate to meet staffing needs and control costs, and updates the One Staff scheduling program each shift to maintain current staffing information. Monitoring supplies usage and reordering as necessary is also part of the role.
