About The Position

The Staffing Specialist position within the Minnesota Department of Corrections focuses on providing staffing services to various work units. This role involves consulting with managers and supervisors to meet staffing needs, analyzing job content, developing selection processes, and advising on recruitment strategies. The position is available at two levels, HR Specialist 1 and HR Specialist 2, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Requirements

  • At least two years of human resources experience with staffing, recruitment, and classification for HR Specialist 2.
  • At least one year of human resource experience for HR Specialist 1.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to document job evaluations and explain HR policies.
  • Superior customer service skills to provide a positive experience for stakeholders.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Reading comprehension to understand and explain personnel laws and policies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Human resources experience with the State of Minnesota.
  • Experience with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience analyzing position descriptions and conducting job audits.
  • Experience with a Human Resource Information System (HRIS), preferably PeopleSoft.
  • Knowledge of State of Minnesota personnel laws and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze job content and develop job-related selection processes.
  • Advise hiring managers on appropriate assessment and selection processes.
  • Review candidates' qualifications and track their status in an applicant tracking system.
  • Refer candidates to hiring managers for further consideration.
  • Guide managers on hiring processes and respond to candidate appeals.
  • Perform job audits to determine job classification decisions.
  • Provide guidance on HR policy, procedure, law, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Create and maintain HR records and provide reports as requested.
