About The Position

The Staff Writer position at FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, involves researching and reporting on the factual accuracy of statements made by political figures. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree; and at least 5 years of experience in journalism, including experience writing about government and politics; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to write clearly, concisely and accurately on complicated subjects.
• Ability to work with statistics and other quantitative research.
• Ability to work on multiple projects on deadline.
• Familiarity with the federal legislative process.
• Experience in fact-checking a plus.

Responsibilities

• Research and report on a variety of topics.
• Write clearly and concisely, explaining why statements made by politicians are inaccurate.
• Monitor various forms of communication by top federal officeholders and political candidates and identify statements based on facts to be researched.
• Interview relevant experts.
• Use statistical datasets.
• Think analytically.
• Perform some multimedia work: creating graphics and finding images for stories, reviewing and creating social media posts as needed.
• Collaborate on stories with multiple bylines.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
