As an Assistant Traffic Engineer in our traffic group, you will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer (PE) and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) to assist multidisciplinary project teams across the public and private sectors. In this role you will be exposed to the full spectrum of traffic operations, traffic safety, and transportation projects including traffic forecasting and modeling, intersection and signal design, safety studies, ADA and trail design, and planning studies. You will have the opportunity to develop safe, efficient, and reliable transportation systems that will serve all modes of travel within our communities and the country for years to come. To be successful you will need to be capable and interested in learning a variety of new skills through both mentorship and independent review of multiple documents from national best practices to client-specific standards. You will have to think critically to apply those standards to the given project to develop exceptional quality construction plans and effectively communicate the methods and results through presentations, memos, and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or related engineering technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Master's degree in civil engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze data sets and identify inconsistencies.
  • Familiarity with traffic modeling, HCM, and MUTCD.
  • Experience with HCS, Synchro, Vissim, Vistro or Sidra is a plus.
  • Experience with construction plan development and use of MicroStation, AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS.
  • Data analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel (xlookup, countif, creating graphs, and basic regression).
  • Experience with traffic safety and crash history analysis is a plus.
