Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on thermal design / electronics cooling experience
  • Expert knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
  • Expertise modeling passive-cooling, air cooling, liquid cooling, 2-phase, batteries, solar radiation
  • Expertise in sizing and selection of fans, radiators, heat sinks, heat pipes, etc.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition methods for thermal validation
  • Expert proficiency with Ansys, Flotherm, or Star CCM (or other leading CFD packages)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field specializing in heat transfer
  • Demonstrated record bringing high-quality products from development into production
  • Experience in thermal solutions for outdoor NEMA/IP rated products
  • Experience with validation testing, product reliability, and failure analysis
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred, other accepted)
  • Experience designing thermal solutions for battery energy storage systems
  • Experience modeling battery pack failure modes including outgassing & propagation
  • Experience with UL 9540A regulatory requirements and testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Architecting, designing, modeling, and validating thermal solutions in ESS/power electronics
  • Building CFD models and instrumented thermal test vehicles to validate models
  • Creating innovative product enabling thermal solutions that balance form and function
  • Optimizing thermal solutions for performance, DFM/DFA, size, acoustics, reliability, cost
  • Providing clear and actionable guidance to engineering teams for detailed design
  • Sizing and selecting components for passive, air, liquid, and 2-phase thermal solutions
  • Interfacing with thermal suppliers for component selection, validation, and integration
  • Partnering with validation & reliability teams to define thermal test parameters
  • Partnering with SW/FW to provide thermal policies for control algorithms
