About The Position

The Employment Development Department (EDD), Tax Branch, has an exciting career opportunity in the Field Audit and Compliance Division's Compliance Development Operations, for two (2) candidates interested in working as a Staff Tax Auditor (STA) in our Northern Underground Economy Section's, Complex Case Group. This is a great opportunity to rotate or promote! Under the general direction of the Complex Case Group, Tax Administrator I, the Staff Tax Auditor (STA) is responsible for conducting the most complex audits and investigations. The investigations can be developed as referrals to an Area Audit Office for payroll tax audits or to Investigation Division. The incumbent conducts investigations of Unemployment Insurance Rate Manipulation, State Unemployment Tax Avoidance, fictitious employer schemes, and may conduct complex and criminal case audits. The STA recommends updates to the "EDD Actively Prosecutes Fraud" web page and functions as a Tax Branch representative for Superior Court cases. Demonstrates expert-level comprehensive knowledge of audit procedures, and applicable policies, laws, and rulings affecting Tax Branch Programs. Effectively uses investigative techniques in the application of laws and audit procedures. Presents and communicates effectively both verbally and in writing to internal and external customers, either individually or in a group setting. Reviews and conducts the most difficult, complex, and comprehensive audits and investigations to ensure statewide uniformity in the application of law. See the STA duty statement linked below for more detailed information! The positions are headquartered in Sacramento, CA ARU 704 and may be eligible for telework under EDD's telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Please note: The program will also consider filling these positions as out stationed working from the following Area Audit Offices (AAO): (Sacramento AAO, Sacramento County), (Bay Area AAO, Alameda County), (Fresno AAO, Fresno County), (San Bernardino AAO, San Bernardino County), (Anaheim AAO, Orange County), (Van Nuys AAO, Los Angeles County), (Santa Fe Springs AAO, Los Angeles County), or (San Diego AAO, San Diego County).

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements in the Class Specification.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment.
