About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Java applications, you will be a technical leader responsible for architecting, designing, and delivering robust, scalable, and high-performance solutions that power Walmart's core platforms. You will drive key initiatives, mentor engineers, and influence the technology vision across teams, ensuring the delivery of world-class software solutions.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in a technical or team leadership role.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, etc.).
  • Deep experience designing and building RESTful APIs and distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and cloud-native application development.
  • Proficient in database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong knowledge of security, performance optimization, and scalability best practices.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and inspire technical teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in large-scale enterprise environments, cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), and e-commerce or retail systems, experience with Agentic AI applications.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly. Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership across multiple teams and projects, setting best practices and driving the adoption of modern engineering principles.
  • Architecture & Design: Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of complex Java-based systems, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Hands-on Development: Develop, test, and deploy high-quality backend applications using Java (Spring Boot), ensuring robust integration with other services and platforms.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product managers, architects, DevOps, and cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end solutions that align with business goals.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Code & Quality: Champion code quality through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration, ensuring standards are maintained across teams.
  • Innovation: Stay current with the latest technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential adoption to improve our platforms.
  • Problem Solving: Lead the resolution of critical technical issues and root cause analysis for production incidents.
  • Agile Practices: Actively participate in Agile planning, retrospectives, and process improvements.
