About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring high-quality system design. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. The team leads Walmart’s talent acquisition technology, supporting recruitment for 2.4 million associates across all levels. They design and manage scalable software solutions that enable hiring from front-line to executive roles. With expertise in technical solution design, project management, and process improvement, the team drives innovation and operational excellence. Collaborating cross-functionally, they deliver reliable, efficient, and secure systems aligned with business objectives. Focused on continuous improvement, the team upholds accountability, technical excellence, and strategic impact within Walmart’s global hiring ecosystem.

Requirements

• Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
• Strong experience in software development lifecycle management, encompassing coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
• Proficiency in conducting system design reviews to validate technical feasibility and alignment with architectural standards.
• Skilled in API design, software prototyping, and applying software design patterns for secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
• Ability to integrate AI/ML components using languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, and C++.
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions for long-term sustainability.
• Data-driven approach to problem definition, metrics tracking, and continuous engineering improvement.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills across all stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

• Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
• Lead system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural best practices.
• Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
• Continuously improve processes, tools, and products through innovation and feedback integration.

• The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
