About The Position

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. Platforms Storage is responsible for building storage solutions for all of Google's services (e.g., AI/ML Systems, Cloud, Search, Photos, YouTube etc.). The team designs and develops the platforms' software and solutions for NAND flash, SSDs, storage appliances, and next-generation disruptive storage technologies. We develop firmware, kernel drivers, system software, tools and security solutions optimized for Google’s services. We develop qualification frameworks, solutions and processes working jointly with our vendors. We are responsible for maintaining and ensuring supply for all the flash in Google’s fleet. In this role, your work will directly contribute to enhancing our capabilities in all of these areas. The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in C, kernel, firmware or other low-level software design, development, test, debug and deployment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience with Python, SQL, and scripting languages and tools.
  • 3 years of experience working in a structured organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience in storage systems, kernel drivers, embedded systems, solid-state drives, performance analysis and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on storage software projects, to define, design, develop and deploy efficient and scalable SSD-based systems, software and devices.
  • Influence and coach a distributed team of software engineers.
  • Review deliverables and processes to ensure high quality with velocity, exemplary teamwork.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines on these projects.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, with clear cross-organisation stakeholder communication.
  • Anticipate and resolve technical as well as operational problems, both direct and via partnerships.
  • Identify innovation opportunities in the storage domain, influence executive leadership to invest, energize peers to contribute, and drive these improvements to completion.
