About The Position

Walmart Global Tech is looking to hire a Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) for their Marketplace Engineering team. An ideal candidate must have expertise in Java, React, strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures, cloud application development, automation tools, CI/CD pipeline, and a proven understanding of microservices and REST APIs. As a part of Walmart Global Tech, you will build industry defining seller and customer experiences in growing the marketplace platform You will be in the unique position to bring a broader impact to the Walmart's customers and sellers by providing insights and intelligence on marketplace related transactions and provide capabilities to associates in supporting all segments of Walmart. Requirements

• 10+ years of full-stack development experience in complex web applications.
• Proven ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities to lead projects and mentor junior team members.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, highly scalable systems .
• A good understanding of Java and Microservices.
• Hands-on experience with Java, ReactJS, Spring Boot, Cloud (Azure/GCP/AWS), Webpack , Kafka (or other messaging service), Memcached/Redis or any caching technologies, relational DBMS ( MySQL, Oracle etc.)
• Should be hands-on writing/reviewing design & code.
• Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
• CI/CD development environments/tools: Git, Maven, Jenkins.
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership for development and design of least one cloud-based project
• Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly.
• Proficient in new and emerging technologies.
• Ability to balance the long-term “big picture” and short-term implications of design decisions.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills; ability to influence and persuade, without direct control.
• Mentoring/coaching Senior staff engineers and other Engineers.
• Focus on reusability, frameworks, patterns, and configurations tools for faster development.
• Practitioner of Agile (Scrum) methodology
• Over 10+ years of experience in designing and developing large-scale, distributed systems
• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
• Strong background in building scalable applications using Micro-services architecture
• Hands-on experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Azure Cosmos, MySQL, Oracle, Cassandra, etc.)
• Expertise in internet-scale distributed technologies (e.g., ElasticSearch, Solr, MemCache, and similar tools)
• Experience working with distributed event streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in e-commerce or marketplace platforms.
• Contributions to open-source projects or active involvement in internal platform evangelism.
• Experience in building extensible platforms, data pipelines are desirable.
• Experience in internalization is a plus.
• Understanding of machine learning preferred.
• Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs for robust and secure communication between frontend and backend systems.
• Knowledge of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture in Node.js.
• Familiarity with performance optimization techniques for backend systems to ensure high responsiveness and low latency.
• Understanding of security best practices for protecting against vulnerabilities and ensuring data integrity and privacy.
• Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross functional teams including business, product and other software engineers to understand the business problem, review business requirements, draft technical requirements, scope, design, develop, test, and deploy services and systems.
• Collaborate with your team to perform design and code reviews, provide constructive feedback, improve operational excellence to ensure high quality, high availability, scalable and performant systems.
• Create and enhance large sized applications, services, or significant set of components within a large application.
• Willing to learn and contribute in any layer of the stack, from front-end development to back-end services and data.
• User Interface Design: Utilize your knowledge in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ReactJS, and Webpack to build responsive and dynamic user interfaces. Implement and customize CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap or Foundation to enhance the visual appeal and functionality.
• Node.js Knowledge: Leverage your knowledge on Node.js for server-side JavaScript, developing scalable backend services and ensuring seamless integration with frontend applications. Implement efficient data processing and handle asynchronous operations effectively.
• Backend Development: Design and develop RESTful APIs, ensuring robust and secure communication between frontend and backend systems. Work with databases, both SQL and NoSQL, to manage data storage and retrieval efficiently. Apply performance optimization techniques and security best practices.
• Mentoring & Learning: Provide mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Lead by example and encourage knowledge sharing within the team.
• Architecture & Design: Stay abreast of emerging frontend and backend technologies, make strategic architectural decisions, and maintain comprehensive documentation. Drive the architectural vision for both frontend and server-side systems.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance user experiences and ensure seamless integration. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments.
• App Health, Quality, and Performance: Prioritize application quality, respond swiftly to feedback, improve performance, and address critical issues proactively. Implement best practices for monitoring and maintaining application health.
• Tech Initiatives & Innovation: Contribute to technological advancements and innovation within the team. Champion new ideas and drive the adoption of cutting-edge frontend and backend technologies.
• Time Management & Planning: Develop detailed project timelines, manage tasks efficiently, and practice effective time management. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality projects.
• Engineering Excellence: Focus on meticulous, detail-oriented work, conduct rigorous code reviews, and resolve complex technical challenges. Uphold the highest standards of engineering excellence.
• Leadership: Provide strategic technical guidance, lead and manage projects, and coordinate with other teams to achieve successful outcomes. Exhibit strong leadership qualities and mentor junior team members.
• Design & Develop software for our OMNI Returns Backend Systems
• Design and implement pipelines to process real time delivery data against our Walmart Global Tech Guidelines.
