This job acts as a project leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners.

  • Drive design reviews and technical deep dives, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and performance for a platform processing 30B+ evaluations/day
  • Establish and enforce best practices for engineering rigor, code quality, and experimentation methodology across teams
  • Partner closely with Data Science and Machine Learning stakeholders to evolve experiment design, metric frameworks, and score carding methodologies
  • Anticipate future platform needs, identifying opportunities for simplification, automation, and extensibility
  • Mentor engineers across levels, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Represent PayPal in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to influence the future of experimentation platforms and standards
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2+ years in technical leadership roles
  • Proven expertise in large-scale distributed systems, data pipelines, and high-throughput services
  • Strong background in experimentation, causal inference, or applied statistics (e.g., A/B testing, bandit algorithms, sequential testing)
  • Hands-on experience with modern experimentation platforms, large-scale data storage/processing systems (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka), and cloud-native architectures
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Data Science, Business) with strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and setting long-term technical direction for complex systems
  • Thought leadership in experimentation methodology, measurement frameworks, or ML-driven optimization
